Environmental Enrichment

 

​I'm a firm believer in the importance of environmental enrichment for our often misunderstood as "simple minded", ectothermic friends. It benefits their quality of life, physical health and, overall longevity due to less prolonged stress. This method of keeping means I strive to provide enclosures that "mimic" the natural environment of the species inhabiting it.

After years of research I finally hunted down all aquarium safe materials to sculpt tree trunks, vines, magnetic feeding ledges, hides, rock backgrounds and other "natural" looking décor that provide enrichment.

Making naturalistic décor is a demanding process for many reasons. There is a lot of research required in finding

very specific construction materials safe for reptiles. These food safe materials are usually "niche" and not available in local hardware stores and, usually only come in bulk quantities when you order them from a specialty store. And then there's then final step in knowing how to work with the materials and the patience sculpting it into something you would maybe see in the wild.

I appreciate not every person may have that kind of time or space to make such things. 

So I thought why not try making some available since I’m already going through the effort of making them for my own animals.

In effort to make environmental enrichment more accessible for enthusiasts & keepers, I plan to release custom backgrounds that I've built for generic sized enclosures (Exo terra & Zoo med). As well as custom builds & décor such as vines, hides, lifelike magnetic food ledges, and more. I do my best to make the backgrounds as naturalistic as possible while having an appealing aesthetic to proudly display in your home. And it is all made with reptile / food safe materials.

Responsibly Breeding Crested Geckos & Leachianus Geckos

Alongside habitat "re-creation", I breed Crested Geckos and Leachianus Geckos here in Canada on a small-ish hobby scale. I find Crested Gecko genetics fascinating and always keeps me on my toes. And those cute little faces pull on the heart strings. I keep several other species but I do not breed them, the vast majority of my reptiles are just pets to me and are not bred.

While I breed Crested Geckos and Leachianus Geckos on a small hobby scale, they are my pets first and their health & overall wellbeing always takes priority before anything else.

I uphold tremendous respect for the species I work with and because of this I put in the care and effort to make sure the new homes my animals are potentially going to will fit the animals best interests. I take live animal sales very seriously and reserve the right to refuse sale if I feel it is not a good fit for the animals well being.
